The Story

Wakoucha is a rare black tea produced in Japan. While Japan is best known for its green teas, it has produced a few specialty black teas for over a hundred years. Because Japanese black teas are made from unique tea cultivars rarely used to produce black tea, they are often different in character than Chinese or Indian black teas, with a bright, delicate flavor and a hint of natural sweetness.

Cups Per Package

This luxury loose leaf tea is carefully blended and packaged by hand in a reusable tin or a resealable kraft bag. Our 3.5 oz. tin or kraft bag makes approximately 35 – 40 cups of tea. Our 7 oz. kraft bag makes approximately 70 – 80 cups.

Ingredients

Black tea (Origin: Fujieda, Shizuoka, Japan)

Tasting Notes

Light, clean, and mellow, with notes of stone fruit, chrysanthemum, clove, honey, spice, and oak.

How to Brew Japanese Wakoucha Tea

Use 1 heaping teaspoon per 6 oz. water. Heat water until steaming briskly, not boiling (approximately 180 degrees). Steep for 2 minutes.

To get the fullest flavor from your tea, consider using a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter that allows the leaves to fully expand.

Japanese Wakoucha Tea Caffeine Content

Black tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine, less than half as much as coffee per cup.

Japanese Wakoucha Tea Benefits

Black tea boosts energy, helps with focus, and is a lower-caffeine alternative to coffee.
